“We won these from the Kiddie Corp for having the highest sales of these in the south east region of the U.S. this year and we are donating them to the Monroe Fire Department,” said Pat Dixon with Home Depot.

Lt. Bill Owens with MFD said this donation came at just the right time.
“We were also donated smoke detectors last year and we successfully gave them all out, with the last ones going out last month,” Owens said.
Capt. Jack Armstrong with MFD said they keep some on the fire trucks and if they find a home doesn’t have any when they respond to any emergency, they will give the resident one.
“And if anyone doesn’t have a smoke detector and wants one, they can come down to the fire station and pick one up,” Armstrong said.

The batteries that were donated by Home Depot and the Kiddie Corp have 10-year batteries. While loading up the smoke detectors to take back to the fire station, shoppers took advantage of letting their children take a look at the fire truck.
