A 50-year-old Atlanta man died Friday in a motor vehicle accident on Highway 11 south of Social Circle involving a Freightliner. The accident happened at about 4:27 p.m. just inside Newton County.
According to a spokesperson from the Georgia Department of Public Safety, the initial indication is that a 2008 Nissan Xterra was traveling north on Georgia 11 and the Freightliner was traveling south. The Nissan partially exited the right edge of the road for an unknown reason and then re-entered the road, crossing into the path of oncoming traffic. The Freightliner struck the right front of the Nissan with the front of the Freightliner.
The Department of Public Safety report that the driver of the Nissan, Christopher Alexander Marion, 20, of Atlanta, was injured and airlifted to Atlanta Medical Center. One of his passengers, Emanuel Dewayne Williams, 50, of Atlanta, was ejected from the vehicle and was fatally injured.
The driver of the Freightliner, Reginald Leon Humphery, 46, of Newton County, was treated at the scene for minor injuries. Charges are pending the completion of the GSP Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team follow-up investigation.
