“Chief Oliver comes to the City with 17 years of experience from the Brookhaven, GA Police Department and Newton County Sheriff’s Office,” Schimer said in a press release. “Chief Oliver has broad ranging experience including patrol, drug enforcement, community outreach, and criminal investigations and progressively responsible supervisory positions in these areas.”

According to the press release, Oliver was selected to replace retired Police Chief Terry Sosebee from a field of about 60 applicants from across the state.  The hiring process included an extensive evaluation and panel interviews, including input from Citizen representatives, area police chiefs, city staff and police personnel.

“Chief Oliver was selected for the position based upon his experience and skills in community oriented policing and building stronger relationships between the citizens and the police department, his breadth and depth of knowledge of professional police operations and current best practices, his record of building positive relationships with surrounding law enforcement agencies, and his commitment to community involvement and teamwork with all the City Departments and service areas,” Schirmer said in the release. “Please join me and the City staff in welcoming Chief Oliver to Social Circle.”
