CoffeewithaCopLogotransparent2Social Circle, GA – The City of Social Circle Police Department is teaming up with Ford’s Restaurant in Social Circle for its first “Coffee with a Cop” event.

The community is invited to to get together with officers with SCPD from 7 – 9 a.m. on Wednesday, Feb. 1, 2017, for an informal, neutral meeting to “discuss community issues, build relationships… and drink coffee.” The invitation is extended to all community members. Ford’s Restaurant is located at 170 S Cherokee Road in Social Circle.

In a press release, SCPD explained that Coffee with a Cop offers a unique opportunity for community members to ask questions and learn more about the department and how it works. With so much of the interaction between police and the community being during emergency or emotional situations, those are not effective times for relationship building between the police and the community. Coffee with a cop offers an opportunity for a “relaxed, one-on-one interaction.”

“We hope that community members will feel comfortable to ask questions, bring concerns, or simply get to know our officers,” said Chief Tyrone Oliver. “These interactions are the foundation of community partnerships.”

Coffee with a Cop is a national initiative supported by The United States Department of Justice, Office of Community Oriented Policing Services. Similar events are being held across the country in an effort to enable local police departments to make better and lasting connections with the communities they serve. The program is an attempt to advance the practice of community policing by improving relationships between police officers and community members “one cup of coffee at a time.”

If you have any questions about this event, you are asked to contact the Social Circle Police Department at 770-464-2366.
