The Monroe Police Department reports that a 35-year-old man was taken to Clearview Regional Medical Center for evaluation after threatening to cut off his mother’s head with a machete.
According to the police report from MPD, officers were called to a residence at North Broad Street at about 5 p.m. Monday after being told that a man was walking around the yard with a machete and threatening to chop people up. Jason Lynn Hewell had his shoes and a machete in one hand and a phone in the other and was talking to a 911 operator. He claimed that his feet were burning and his mother was trying to poison him. He was ordered by police officers to drop the machete and get to his knees, which he did, then asked for a cloth to wipe his feet because they were burning.
Hewell’s mother told officers that her son had been using methamphetamine for about a month and was seeing and hearing things. He was convinced that people were trying to poison him with chemicals and had threatened to cut off his mother’s head and cut her into pieces with the machete. He banged on the car with the machete and threatened his mother as she called 911. An aunt said Hewell had been walking around at her house for most of the day with the machete, but she too had not been harmed. Hewell was taken to CRMC for evaluation. He is charged with aggravated assault – other weapon.
