Highway 138 approaching Monroe was backed up Monday evening with many having to find an alternative route to miss the congestion. Georgia State patrol reports it was a four-vehicle wreck that caused the problems. It happened at about 5:20 p.m.
A spokesperson with GSP reported that a 2014 Ford LGT Convtnl ‘F pickup was traveling eastbound on State Route 138 behind a 2007 Dodge Ram. The Ram was traveling eastbound on State Route 138 behind a 2002 Ford Ranger. The Ranger was traveling eastbound on State Route 138 behind 2008 Pontiac G6 GT. The G6 was traveling eastbound on State Route 138. All four of the vehicles were in the first eastbound travel lane with the Ranger and the G6 stopped in traffic. The Ram was slowing down to stop when it was struck in the rear by the Ford pickup. That caused a domino effect - the Ram struck the Ranger and the Ranger struck the G6 GT. All areas of impact took place in the first eastbound travel lane of State Route 138.
The driver of the Ford LGT, Gary L. Day, 57, from Monroe was injured and transported to Clearview Regional Medical Center by his wife. He was charged with following too closely and received a warning for driving too fast for conditions.
The 2007 Dodge Ram had a female driver from Decatur and three minor passengers, a 15-year-old, a 4-year-old and a 1-year-old. None of them were injured. The 2002 Ford Ranger was driven by a 28-year-old from Loganville and had an 8-year old passenger. Neither of them were injured. The 2008 Pontiac G6 GT was driven by a 32-year-old woman from Oxford and she too was not injured.
