Breaking: 8 Arrested in Monroe on federal drug trafficking charges

The United States  Department of Justice announced the arrest of eight Monroe residents in a drug trafficking ring.

According to a press release from US Attorney G.F. Peterman, the eight residents were indicted on Nov. 10 by a middle Georgia Grand Jury and arrested on Nov. 15, 2016. They are all charged with drug conspiracy and distribution.

Arrested are: Michael Deshawn Johnson, 39, his wife, Sandra Johnson, 51, his daughter Felisha Smith, 31, Rodricus Devoe, 27, Robert Mayweather, 28, William Orlando Randolph, 41, Shapharrier Harper, 25, and Annie R. Malcom, 56, all of Monroe.

According to allegations in the indictment, the accused all conspired to distribute crack cocaine and marijuana in Monroe over a three year period. Peterman said, if convicted, the defendants face a minimum of 10 years to life imprisonment, a fine of up to $10 million and up to five years of supervised release. They were arrested this morning in Monroe and will appear in the district court in Macon on Nov. 16.
