Walton County Cold Case Investigator Michael Rising came on board with Walton County Sheriff’s Office on July 7, 2010. Prior to that, he was an officer in the United State Marine Corps, a Vietnam Veteran and a Special agent with the FBI. He began working with WCSO for a specific purpose.

“It was specifically to work the 1992 Homicide of Randy Peters. Following successful indictment of his widow, Linda Agee, aka(also known as) Linda Chapman Peters Sergeant Agee (she had three husbands), and her ultimate conviction for Felony Murder, resulting in life imprisonment, I started compiling and working other cold cases which had come to light,” Rising said. “That was the beginning of Walton County’s Cold Case Unit.”

Currently Rising is working 15 cold cases with a total of 23 victims, the oldest from 1976. For investigative reasons, the Cold Case Unit will not be able to profile all the cases, but any that can be will be profiled in Monroe and Loganville Local’s Spotlight on Community. Each month, we will feature one of the cold cases and keep it live on the sites for a month.

The first of these videos, produced by Darrell Everidge of Darrell Productions, Inc., profiles Rising and the expertise he brings to the cases, as well as the first case being profiled in this series. This is the 2004 homicide of a newborn infant that was found on the side of the road in the Loganville area of Walton County. You are urged to share this on social media and any other way you can. The more people hear the details of these cases, the greater chance there is someone will have that little piece of information that will enable WCSO to bring justice to the victims and their families.

Anyone with knowledge of this incident is asked to contact Walton County Cold Case Investigator Michael Rising at 770-266-1558 and leave a message or email michael.rising@co.walton.ga.us All messages will be kept confidential.

Marcy Owens moved into the family home on Ho Hum Hollow Road eight years ago when her mother passed away. Friday they lost that home and everything in it to a fire.

“We were lucky nobody was home at the time, but we lost everything,” Owens said, adding that the family of six, including four boys between the ages of 6 and 21, are temporarily living with their other son on Ho Hum Hollow Road until they can find a way to rebuild. There was no insurance on the home.

“We’re thinking we will try and get a double wide as soon as we can – that will probably be the fastest way we can get into a home,” she said.

As soon as the word got out about the fire, neighbors, friends and complete strangers began sending requests asking how they can help. Owens said the biggest need right now is clothes for the two school aged children. Her youngest, at 6, is a first-grader at Youth Elementary School and she has another 16-year-old who attends Walnut Grove High School.

“We also have a 19-year-old and a 21-year-old, but I am most concerned about those two because they have to go to school on Monday,” she said.

As soon as they are able to get a home to move into, the family will need beds and bedding for two adults and the four children. They will also need furniture for the home as everything was lost in the fire. A GoFundMe page was started by Kristy Parker on their behalf.

“We are trying to help in anyway that we can to provide a little assurance for this sweet family to have what they need for the time being. Anything that you can do to help this family in a time of need would be greatly appreciated and such a big help,” Parker wrote on the Gofundme Page.

Financial donations to the family can be made through the GoFundMe page. Items of clothing and furniture can be dropped off at the home that the family is currently sharing on Ho Hum Hollow Road.

“There is a barn in the back where we can store anything until we get a home,” Owens said.

Anybody who has items of clothing, furniture or anything else to help this family get back on its feet, can contact Marcy Owens at 678-499-0597  to find out where to drop anything off.
