A Social Circle man is facing driving under the influence charges following a wreck on Highway 11 at about 11 a.m. on Sunday, July 3 near Simmons Road.
According to the Department of Public Safety public information office, a Ford Expedition was traveling south on State Route 11 approaching a Chevrolet Cobalt traveling north when the Expedition crossed the center line and traveled into the north lane. It side swiped the Cobalt and after impact both vehicles came to an uncontrolled final rest on the east shoulder.
The driver of the Expedition Shaun Castellana, 38, of Social Circle was taken into custody for Driving While Under the Influence, Driving While License Suspended, and Failure to Maintain Lane. The three passengers in the Cobalt were transported to Athens Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Breaking: Public Safety Officials are working a wreck on Highway 11 between Monroe and Social Circle at Simmons Road. The road had to be closed for a short time in order to extricate a patient who was entrapped. The road was back open by 11 a.m. but traffic continues to be backed up.
“A Walton County Fire Rescue unit rolled up on it right after it happened. One patient had to be extricated and was transported by Walton EMS to a trauma center,” Capt. Jeff Allen with WCFR said. “Social Circle Fire assisted with the extrication.”
