Friday the Monroe Police Department announced the indictment and arrest of two men in the 1988 murder of Willie Joe Beasley, 43. Perry Brown, 59, of Sorrells St., Monroe, and Jerry Jones, 66, of 142 C Perry St., Monroe, have been arrested and charged with malice/felony murder.

According to MPD, Beasley was murdered in his home at 523 1/2 North Broad St., Monroe, on Aug. 18, 1988.
“Mr. Beasley’s life mattered to us. Today I am very proud and appreciative of the work that has been done on this cold case. The indictments and arrest of these two suspects brings justice for the life and soul of Mr. Beasley closer,” Monroe Public Safety Director Keith Glass said in a Facebook post. MPD Detective Ricky Chambers took the lead on this cold case. Homicide has done an exceptional job in bringing the case together. Our work with the Georgia Bureau of Investigations and the Walton County District Attorney’s Office has made this carriage of justice possible.
Glass said that Jones was being booked into Walton County Detention Center Friday and Brown would be booked in as soon as he was released from Clearview Regional Medical Center. He said when they went to arrest him, he claimed to be having a heart attack. He was taken to the hospital to be checked out before being booked into the jail.
