Update
A 60-year-old monroe woman was struck and killed by a car on Spring Street in Monroe on Thursday night. She has been identified as Frances Lorine Staton, 60, of Monroe.
According to a spokesperson with Georgia State Patrol, this crash occurred around 7:30 p.m. on Nov. 3, 2016. Initial indication is that a Buick Rendezvous was traveling eastbound on Spring Street. The victim was traveling south from the westbound travel lane into the central turn lane, and entered the eastbound travel lane. The driver of the Buick, Etta York, 57, of Monroe, attempted to avoid a collision but was unsuccessful. Staton was pronounced deceased on scene.
GSP report that tighting conditions were poor and no crosswalk was located near the area of impact. No alcohol/drugs are suspected and no charges are expected at this time.

East Spring Street in Monroe has been closed off to traffic from Hammond Street to the entrance to Highway 78 due to a pedestrian fatality. Avoid the area at this time.
Public Safety Director Keith Glass said the victim was a woman in her 60s. The coroner was on the scene and officials were working on identification and notifying next of kin.
